A Service Project -
The Crafted Happiness is a service project started by Risha Manga. Risha is a middle schooler at Lausanne Collegiate School based in Memphis, TN.
Risha's Aha Moment
In the summer of ‘15, I set out to hone my existing skills, learn new skills and prepare for middle school. In addition to practicing my math, science and piano, I also enrolled in performing arts, art and dissection classes. However, I still felt something was missing and I could do something more productive with my time.
It so happened, that one of my friend’s grandmother was visiting her and I was invited to their house. My friend’s grandmother taught me how to make dome-shaped earrings from a design inspired by Indian earrings called “Jhumkas”.
Before I knew, I was spending countless hours designing and crafting jewelry. Seeing my mom spend money on buying the supplies required for my new found hobby, it reminded me of my project in 3rd grade called Marketplace. In that project, we created a product to sell and donate the profits to an African school. This was my “Aha moment” where I figured I could continue to fund my hobby if I found a way to sell my craft. I could then also donate all the proceeds for a cause. Sounds like a win-win.
My 9 year brother, Krishnav got inspired too and joined hands with me. Together, we are committed to using our skills and time to raise money and support various local causes.
